COWSPIRACY: The Sustainability Secret – EN

Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret is a groundbreaking feature-length environmental documentary following intrepid filmmaker Kip Andersen as he uncovers the most destructive industry facing the planet today – and investigates why the world’s leading environmental organizations are too afraid to talk about it.

Animal agriculture is the leading cause of deforestation, water consumption and pollution, is responsible for more greenhouse gases than the transportation industry, and is a primary driver of rainforest destruction, species extinction, habitat loss, topsoil erosion, ocean “dead zones,” and virtually every other environmental ill. Yet it goes on, almost entirely unchallenged.

As Andersen approaches leaders in the environmental movement, he increasingly uncovers what appears to be an intentional refusal to discuss the issue of animal agriculture, while industry whistleblowers and watchdogs warn him of the risks to his freedom and even his life if he dares to persist.

As eye-opening as Blackfish and as inspiring as An Inconvenient Truth, this shocking yet humorous documentary reveals the absolutely devastating environmental impact large-scale factory farming has on our planet, and offers a path to global sustainability for a growing population.

Eating meat as a human is not natural and never was. If you believe that eating meat is natural, then you should eat all your meat raw and be able to hunt without any tools.

Only when fire and hunting tools were invented were we able to catch animals and cook them. And because those all came thousands of years later, we must have all started out vegetarian.

Note: Sneaking up on a lettuce can be quite tricky and requires skills only our forefathers knew.

Guys, if you want to watch the full doc, search for Cowspiracy O Segredo da Sustentabilidade here on YouTube. I just watched the full doc. Yes, it's in English. It just has Brazilian Portuguese subtitles.

The problem isn't the scale of farming but the type of product?! What is he on? Humans have been eating meat basically since the dawn of their existence, there are cave paintings of humans hunting bison, etc., I don't need to explain this. And then he shows a graph which "shows" that the whole problem has been getting significantly worse since the mid-c19, i.e. the Industrial Revolution in the Western world, i.e. the advent of mass production of meat among other products. Before then people grew whatever crops their soil could sustain as well as keeping animals to live off (other crops and) their meat, eggs, milk, and other products. These animals were kept on meadows etc. and grazed until they were old/fat/whatever enough to be slaughtered and eaten. This was not a problem. People lived within their means, had a varied diet, sometimes crops failed, but in general everyone got on fairly well with what their ecosystem could give them. (I realise this is a huge generalisation because the earth is a big place with many different types of ecosystems, some not so amenable to human life, and the history of humanity is long and very varied.) But – people lived off what the ecosystem could provide, incl. animals. Now, with the advent of mass-scale farming however (ahem ahem) humans started "farming" animals on a huge scale, way beyond their means, and global transport of products (incl. meat) has significantly impacted the planet in a negative way.

So how can he possibly assert that the scale of farming and the international transport of animal products is not the source of the problem when he has just shown it actually is?

Obviously this has nothing to do with moral arguments against eating animals. I am seriously considering going veggie for this reason (hence why I am watching this video) but his argument is absolutely ridiculous.

I think a stopping everyone eating meat is pie in the sky. I also have concerns when it comes to the appearance of the few vegans I've met. Frail & weak looking. Though I respect their willpower & efforts, It's not a good selling point. I think the thing to tackle first in this case is self control and portion size. It's those who eat an inordinate amount of meat who are the largest culprits. If their appetites were more in control then I'm pretty sure the meat industry would diminish to fit a lesser demand. I'm looking not just talking about the overweight but also the body builders too. You must take responsibility for your own intake and understand the consequences of your vanity. "Every thing in moderation" is as true now as it was back in the day. But to live by that takes an internal strength that many lack.

Mike V is a fake vegan. He's just looking for a larger fan base. You don't want him as a spokes person for this film. He stands for nothing and is only out for his own fame and fortune.

Human population is the crime. Y do we support the criminals. Western cultures have been responsible with their reproduction. Put a stop on this world economy crap, put up the walls and let nature sort it out. If a nation can't feed their own people the answer isn't to feed them or take them, it is to let them be accountable and let nature do it's thing. also Check out the bison population before Europeans came to N. America

this documentary should be available on youtube, the issue is serious, it needs mass distribution and awareness. i also have a question, why used the title "cow" in cowspiracy? why not animalspiracy or Livestockpiracy….? cause it involves a large range of domecticated livestocks.

Even before knowing the YouTube video, I wrote the following poem. I am a Canadian-Indian Vegetarian and a staunch vegetarian and have a very low Carbon-footprint as well.Stomach Graveyard:

I saw ONE person point this out which I completely agree with; animals eat animals. Humans are also animals, and we eat animals. In the long run (I'm not going to get into the specifics) we started out with there not being much of a difference between humans and any regular other animal. I am aware how horrible it is to torture animals which I am completely against. People are greedy and thus, we resort to faster, more horrible ways of getting meat/ dairy products. I have no problem with you if you are vegan btw, I just wanted to point that out. I'm not going to rant nearly as much as I'd like to and some of this wording might be off but I think I've pretty much gotten my point across

  • lars 7500

    Nah, I'll stick to meat.
