I felt so sorry for Peter when Christopher humiliated him with that Kipling quote early on but very happy to see his genuine smile at 13:59 – these two might not see eye to eye on anything at all but it's comforting to know that there is a sense of shared comradery there despite it all

  • Spooky Scary Skeleton

Damn, they're so similar, 1:58, 2:16, exact same postures lol.

BRITS DIDN'T KNOW THEIR OWN HISTORY. (CAPS = BAD EYES.) GERTRUDE BELL, BRIT SPOOK, CREATED IRAQ OUT OF SUNNIS, SHIIA AND KURDS. W AND BLAIR LIFTED OFF THE LID OF SADAAM, AND ALL HELL BROKE LOSE. BRITISH STUDENTS I HAD IN HERE IN AMERICAN HADN'T LEARNED IN THEIR BRITISH AMERICAN STUDIES MAJORS, WEREN'T AWARE OF THE WAR OF 1812. DID CHRISTOPHER KNOW THAT? COULD YOU PLEASE ASK PETER

  • Chris Tully

Peter Hitchens, the only Christian in the debate and the one to argue against the Iraq war. He must have confused his American audience.

  • Parched Pinemarten

"It seems to me to be fairly evident, looking again at my own country, that in societies that do not believe in hell, hell pretty quickly comes into existence."

I wonder if they ever came to some modicum of peace between each other before Christopher died.

This video demonstrates for us that no matter the erudition of the mind, this does not translate into evoking within the heart a peculiar wisdom, sophistication and shrewdness to be brothers.

    I know, it is complicated.

Peter is such a waste of hitchnes… only one coould exist, RIP CH.

I think the rise of ISIS and the subsequent invasion of Europe by hoards of Muslims (many of whom are NOT fleeing persecution but are eager to make Europeans flee THROUGH persecution) invalidates the bulk of what Christopher said in this debate.

It is sad that Christopher could not live long enough to see the glorious black flag of IslamoFascism be raised in Iraq.
I would've LOVED to hear what he might say about it.

At 1:47:00 Hitchens is feigning indignation. The Nazi's effectively waged a war against any clergy that opposed them. To claim that their was any legitimate alliance between Catholicism and/or the Protestant Church in Austria and Germany is simply not true. You have to ignore the fact that Hitler was having clergy run out of office and murdered by his thugs or arrested and charged with plotting against Germany, locked up indefinitely and forced to sign confessions. Chris stooped to an all time low with his comments and his demanding an apology is ridiculous. Stalin was decidedly anti-religious and decidedly militantly atheist in keeping with Marxist/Leninist doctrine. Chris is simply running from the truth in pretending that Stalin's regime was not an atheistic regime. Lenin and Stalin as well as Hitler made it a point of their military doctrine that when their armies and secret police entered a new region they would immediately round up and kill all members of the clergy, all members of the nobility, all members of the government. Their entire ideological perspective embraced the idea that religion itself would be hostile to their tyranny.

Chris's point that morality and religion have no connection is simply not supported by facts. I will grant that he does a wonderful job crafting his point for maximum effect, eliciting a round of applause and so on from the audience. I'll readily admit that he is a spellbinding public speaker and debater. Nonetheless, he is completely wrong. Numerous books have detailed recent research that was unavailable to Chris when he first began to offer this argument. I think he would have to modify it today were he able to look at the evidence. Nations that are abandoning their faith, the social bonds between men and religion, are becoming irrefutably less virtuous. So to claim as Chris does that we have no need for religious edicts or laws and that these are an 'insult to our decency and integrity' is simply rhetoric. No evidence whatsoever supports his position. In fact the evidence shows that European societies are abandoning honesty, generosity, charity and so forth (other societies as well). Now if you feel that it is moral to be more selfish, more greedy, more dishonest, then perhaps you are not fully persuaded. I think those are the building blocks of any free and prosperous society and so for my part Chris cannot possibly be more deluded. We will forgive him on that point because he is clearly such a brilliant man. We cannot expect him to be right about everything.

Now I remember why I couldn't stand Christopher Hitchens,….. because he was ignorant.

And yet people still ignore or deny the fact that Jesus Christ, who IS God in the flesh, lived, died, was resurrected and will come again. SMH Humans are " without excuse " of the existence of God.

Rom 1:18-20 "The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For
since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal
power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from
what has been made, so that people are without excuse ."

By the way, there are no atheists in Hell. ;)
