Christian “like” often looks and sounds a lot like hatred. Just look at the Westboro Baptist Church… you know, the ones that protest at veteran’s funerals with signs that say “God Despises Fags” and “Thank God for 9/11″. I don’t approach every Xian with an attitude. Nearly entire family is Xian. I’d be a lonely person if I acted as you claim I do on a daily basis. I never said atheists should go about life knocking over every Xian they can find. But if we’re talking about the public square here – and we are – then “fight” will be given when questioned.

@GenericUser19xx : By your own account of the dynamic, your argument is just as useless as mine, in that no matter how atheists approach Christians, they will still be offended. So then what you’re left with is weather or not to be decent to them. Being decent shows not just them, but everyone else that Atheism doesn’t lead to asshole-ism. And, it’s possible to “address their beliefs critically” without being an asshole. It seems you chose to address a point I never made.
They say that anyway. You reckon being nice would change anything? Atheists have tried that. Atheism is an affront to religion in general. Just being an atheist is an offense to many of them. If you tell many people you’re an atheist, it’s like insulting their mother. The point is theists make it extremely hard to approach the issue without conflict because their indoctrinations derail the discussion before it starts. How is it our fault that they can’t address their beliefs critically?
